Note: If anyone has a good way to doctor these things up and make them halfway edible I’d love to try it since I still have about 9 strips left and don’t want to waste them.
One of the hardest parts of being a new vegan (or even a seasoned vegan) is trying to keep up with all the new products out there. I must have spent over $50 looking for the right vegan cheese my first year being a vegan and own over 150 vegan/vegetarian cookbooks but not all the recipes are the greatest. Myself (The Vegan Guinea Pig) and my toddler daughter (Lil' Guinea Pig) will happily taste, try on, and try out nearly anything vegan and bring our reviews to you.

try cooking them with lots of vegetable oil till they're crisp. then pat them off with a paper towel. buy a sub or hoagie roll and put vegan mayo on both sides. Load on the sprouts and romaine hearts and tomato (if you're one for tomato on sandwiches). drizzle a little vinaigrette over top and sprinkle some salt, pepper, oregano and basil as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not even a fan of homemade tempeh strips, so I've never tried Lightlife's, since they have the same ingredients that I've tried before. I don't get the tempeh bacon hype really, but maybe it is because I'm not frying them in tons of oil.
ReplyDeleteHey Gina, I've fried them within a inch of their lives and still didn't like them so you are not alone. Someone recommended that I try them in tacos with lots of hot spices, salsa, and guacamole. I'm going to try to salvage them somehow just not to waste the food. But I'll never buy them again.
ReplyDeleteWe used to eat them a lot but now we've switched to the Tempeh Bacon recipe in VWAV and we are SO much happier with that one! It has much more flavor and you can control the ingredients. Plus it's way cheaper.
ReplyDeleteBest vegan bacon going!!! I'm addicted.
ReplyDeleteohhh love them in vegan blt's that they make at a local store in baltimore... or at home i use them in dreena burton's blt recipe with avocado tomato etc... yummy.. dreena's website is eat drink be vegan i think. good luck!
ReplyDeleteI fry them in a little bit of oil, then make a sandwich with sliced avocado, a little vegenaise and toasted pumpernickel. Not the healthiest sandwich, but it's really good!
